As far as the job market goes, Jefferson County has a number of great places to work. One of the largest employers in the area is the Coors Brewing Company located in Golden, CO. The Colorado School of Mines is another major employer. Lockheed Martin Space Systems, NREL, the Denver Federal Center, and the Exempla Lutheran Medical Center also employ many residents. For commuters, there are also many opportunities in the Jefferson County area.

Families with school-age children will want to learn about the Jefferson County School District R-1, which is the largest school district in the state. There are 148 schools in the district that serve over 84,000 students. As of 2014, this includes eight option schools and eleven charter schools. For higher education, the Colorado School of Mines offers degrees in areas such as engineering and applied sciences. About a third of all families in the area have children under the age of 18.

For active seniors and baby boomers there are numerous opportunities for ranch style, patio home, and golf course community living throughout Jefferson County. Many boomers are opting to live in places with a high walk score to be close to services and shopping.
